Vadgaon, Sinhagad Road, Pune
Midway along Sinhagad Road, between the city and Khadakwasla, with the Mutha river on one side and the Sinhgad institutes on the other.
Where Vadgaon sits
Sinhagad Road leaves the city at Rajaram Bridge and runs south-west past Vitthalwadi, Hingne, Anand Nagar and Vadgaon towards Dhayari, Khadakwasla and, eventually, Sinhagad fort, which gives the road its name. Vadgaon, split into Vadgaon Budruk and Vadgaon Khurd, is the stretch where the road runs closest to the Mutha river and where the Sinhgad Technical Education Society campus sits.
For years the corridor’s problem was the drive into town, not the neighbourhood itself. Schools, colleges, hospitals and markets were already here. What changed between 2024 and 2026 is the infrastructure: a flyover over the worst junctions, a sanctioned metro line along the road, and a riverfront plan for the banks closest to Vadgaon.
Three projects changing the commute
Each is dated and sourced. Plans change, so treat any future date as indicative.
- Sinhagad Road flyover, fully open since September 2025The flyover opened in three phases: a 520 m section at Rajaram Bridge chowk in August 2024, the 2.1 km Vitthalwadi to Fun Time stretch on 1 May 2025, and the final section from Goyal Ganga Chowk to Inamdar Chowk on 1 September 2025, at a total cost of about ₹118 crore. The run from Rajaram Bridge to Fun Time was reported to fall from about 30 minutes at peak to around 6.Source: Free Press Journal and Punekar News, May and September 2025
- Metro along Sinhagad RoadThe Union Cabinet approved Pune Metro Line 4 and 4A on 26 November 2025: about 31.6 km with 28 stations, including the Khadakwasla to Swargate and Kharadi line that runs along Sinhagad Road. Maha Metro began the process of appointing contractors for the Dandekar Bridge to Khadakwasla section in June 2026, and construction was expected to take about three and a half years from the work order. Station locations have not been confirmed.Source: Punekar News, 26 November 2025 and 27 June 2026
- Mutha riverfront, Vadgaon Khurd to Rajaram BridgeOn 7 August 2026 the PMC approved a riverfront stretch of about 4.1 km between Vadgaon Khurd and Rajaram Bridge, with embankments, planting, drainage and jogging tracks. The wider riverfront programme is under state review, so treat timelines as indicative.Source: Punekar News, August 2026 and April 2026
